Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

In the small town of Cherry Falls, someone is killing virgins. The sheriff's daughter (and virgin) Jody, discovers a dark secret in the town's history: meanwhile the high school students organise a party intended to be full of rampant sex in order to get rid of all the remaining virginity in the town. This film takes the tried and tested teenage slasher formula and tweaks it with some clever and knowing touches, not least of which is the town's name (a real town in West Virginia, by the way.The sex and violence, integral to the story (and of course to the horror sub-genre which this movie is deconstructing) are almost entirely missing due, I understand, to the studio going for a more anodyne edit in order to get a more charitable censorship rating.Brittany Murphy is great - what a loss - and Jay Mohr has as much fun as the audience, if not mo(h)re.

This is not the worst but also not the best. It is a middling horror movie. I was disappointed with the lack of gory killing but the implied violence is pretty cool. The twist was interesting the first time but once remembered it becomes a bit stupid. The idea of having sex to stay alive is a good one and the teen orgy was genius but still handled in a generic manner. Worth a watch for horror fans.

Just about everything in "Cherry Falls" is somehow clever and quick- witted. First of all, just take a minute to ponder the name of the town. The concept of a killer taking out virgins instead of disreputable teens is also something the movie has going for it. Another asset is a well thought out script by writer Ken Selden with a surprise reveal that hearkens back to the suspenseful who-dun-its like "Prom Night," "My Bloody Valentine," and even the later "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying "Cherry Falls" is perfect by any means. There are plenty of stale performances and overacting from a largely young cast. Honestly, that's my only complaint about the movie."Cherry Falls" is rated R for strong violence / gore, teen sexuality, language and some drug content. There's plenty of talk about sex, but no nudity. If you saw the movie when it premiered as the most expensive TV-movie on the USA Network, I'm sure most of the language and graphic violence was nowhere to be found. The version we get here is the home video cut, which features folks getting axed in the head and being impaled. Most of the killing is performed offscreen, however, in the fine fashion of "Psycho" and other early thrillers."Cherry Falls" is one of the more adept entries in the slasher genre. Much of this is owed to the combination of a sincere performance from Brittany Murphy, an ingenious turnabout in plot, and the familiar use of a surprise ending. It's an enjoyable addition to a horror fan's home entertainment collection.

This movie was very interesting. And though I am a sucker for Who dun-nit types of movies, this movie still kept me on edge. Starring the late great Brittany Murphy and Jason Mohr,it changed the whole idea of sex=death, that is seen in almost every slasher film. In fact the virgins are the ones being slashed off. This movie also has some funny parts ********SPOILER ALERT******* What I really loved about this movie is that everything ties up at the end Such when Brittany Murphy is chatting with her teacher (Jason Mohr) she claims she saw someone standing in the door. They race out to see who it is and they eventually land in the cafeteria and only the viewers of the movie see a boot with a weird logo like four little squares to make one square. Later in the movie she goes to her boyfriends house and she takes off his boots ( which are the exact same boots in the cafeteria). Which at the time gives viewers a chance to ponder whether her boyfriend is the killer. The killer we find out is the beloved teacher (Jason Mohr), who is the son of a student who was raped 27 years ago by a drunken incoherent boy who is now the father of Brittany Murphy's character. I know pretty heavy stuff. But after Brittany finds out about her father bad deeds she goes to Jason Mohr's home (how did she know where her teacher lived was that a normal thing)and she see him struggling trying to carry this big treasure chest type of thing and when he slides it down the stairs, which sort of scares Brittany Murphy, She asks what inside the box and he said "Your father, My Father" at the time we don't time we didn't get why he said that, but now that the movie is over I was able to realize how those things added up.I still have questions about this movie... 1. Did the boyfriend make it? we see him slashed through his shirt blood visible but he is able to crawl out to the balcony to see whats going on.2. They never really gave an explanation during th questioning by the FBI as to why they lied, I assume that it was to protect her father's image as well as the daughter.
