Was Memphis Raines an alpha male? His Character Seemed Like He Was An Alpha Male. One of the best movies I've seen.Nicolas Cage plays Memphis Raines, who used to be the greatest car thief in Los Angeles ("I didn't do it for the money. I did it for the cars"). Now he has retired to the desert to run a gas station and go-kart track. He retired because his mom asked him to. She was afraid his younger brother Kip (Ribisi) would become a thief, too. Kip became a thief anyway.

This movie came out when Nicholas Cage was the it guy and most of the movies that he starred in was over the top but entertaining. He was the iconic Hollywood actor when it came to action and con artist type of movies from the 90's and early 2000. And he did portrays a likable car thief in this naturally. Before he just became the guy that freaks out and goes crazy in his future movies. So when I first saw this movie as a kid, I thought it was a fun crime action movie. With fast cars, a hot girl and a team working together to steal 50 cars in one night. It wasn't the most cleverly executed movie, and doesn't go into detail when it comes to the planning of the thefts. But it's a serviceable action/crime movie. Even the chase scene, which isn't one of the best chase scenes I have seen was at least cool. As a matter of fact this felt like a bit toned down version of "Fast Five". Overall after seeing it again, I thought it was a fairly decent early 2000's action movie.6/10

Gone in 60 Seconds (2000): Dir: Dominic Sena / Cast: Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi, Delroy Lindo, Robert Duvall: Big budget noise with as much nonsense as it can acquire. Title refers not just to the physical but also the mental duration with former car thief Nicolas Cage returning to his home town. His brother attempted to pull a boost and was caught. Cage is ordered to steal 50 cars in one night or his brother will be terminated. He enlists the help of old players who consists of the usual rat pack. Last twenty minutes are a constant car chase where Cage hurls a car over a ramp. There is also unnecessary footage of a neighborhood gang. Directed by Dominic Sena who previously made Kalifornia. While Cage plays a guy who can think on the spot and act fast, he certainly didn't use this ability to leave the set. Angelina Jolie is wasted as a waitress who does nothing more than don weird hair styles. Giovanni Ribisi is totally cardboard as Cage's brother although being in this film seems to be enough of a punishment. Delroy Lindo plays a cop. That pretty much sums up his role. Robert Duvall is a terrific actor but caught up in limited screen time and a plot undeserving of his talent. Nothing new and who cares. Technically well made but hardly passes as a screenplay or even entertainment. It calls for squealing tires and wreckage in its most pointless state. Score: 3 / 10

I really like this movie. It's a very inventive, creative idea for a movie. And Nicolas Cage does fantastically as the lead in this movie. This movie is about a car thief, Memphis Raines. He's a former thief, actually. But when his brother gets into some trouble with other thieves, Memphis must get his crew back together to pull off the greatest car heist in history. He needs to get fifty specific, high end cars and transport them to the big boss in only a matter of days. Memphis doesn't really want to be risking it, but for his brother, he does. With the cops on their trail, and only a few hours left, Memphis must get that very last car.Overall, I give this movie an 8 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Awesome.
