A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Follows an elite hit man as he teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims. Although The Mechanic packs some great punches for example the action is good and the tension is pretty cool and both Jason Statham and Ben Foster are really good unfortunately the talented Donald Sutherland is easily wasted very early in the movie, Tony Goldwyn as the villain is easily forgettable and the whole thing with the gay assassin was pretty funny and came out of nowhere it's not a bad action film or even a bad Jason Statham movie but it needed more action and better villains besides that it's a nice action film but nothing more than that.

The Mechanic is really a below average film. It drags along with not much happening, despite stuff happening. Statham plays this Mechanic who is a killer for hire. He seems to get his jobs from Donald Sutherland, and he typically completes the jobs with no one being the wiser. He doesn't trust the govt. But he blindly fulfills the missions he is given like a soldier. Suddenly he forms a partnership with Sutherland's son, Steve (Ben Foster). How does Steve go from nobody to killer? that was a leap, and I think the kid was miscast. The film degrades into a cat and mouse chase game with people trying to kill Statham and Steve, but he of course wipes them all out. The ending is totally Hollywoodian, and so predictable. You'll just say - boy that was NOT a surprise. If you like Statham beating up and killing bad guys, and don't need much of a plot, and sub b-grade acting, you'll be OK with The Mechanic. Otherwise, I suggest you find a different garage for your viewing pleasure.

I'll be honest with you: I did not enjoy this film. Yea, it did have a few good action scenes, but that's it. Now, these things are the only decent/good stuff that saved this movie from being one of the most boring action films ever: Jason Statham was awesome as always, Ben Foster was also really impressive, the few action scenes in this film were also really good, and lastly- the directing was pretty enjoyable. Now comes the fun part, everything that made this film bad: Not a single character featured in this film has a background, after every single death you're left wondering ''why did they kill him ?'', even the goddamn plot of this film is strange and confusing, you barely know anything about any character in this film and there are even characters that you don't even know their name !!! This is one of those films who can enjoy it ONLY if you don't give a damn about the story or characters and just wanna see good action scenes. You can clearly see that the writers of this film didn't know what they're supposed to do.

This was different than what I was expecting especially in the beginning where it wasn't your usual mindless Jason Statham action flick. For the first half (anyways) the car chases and cool choreographed fight scenes take a back seat, in fact there are large sections where Statham isn't even in it, he just narrates. Instead we get Ben Foster, which is no hardship.Intriguing story once I got on board, revolving around an elite assassin who gets double crossed and then proceeds to teach his trade to an apprentice who had a connection to one of his previous victims. As things progress the body count rises, Statham shows his moves and things get awesome. The window washing stunt was excellent as was all the twisty double crossing. Great (explosive) ending. 5/24/14
