what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

I liked this movie better when it was called Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Maybe it's because I'm not a Zach Galifianakis fan, but I didn't find Due Date to be very funny. It's just awkward and annoying with a few small laughs mixed in.

This movie is essentially about a road-trip across the United States during which two unlikely travel companions are "forced" to hitch together. One is expecting a baby, the other just lost his father. And so the story goes. Although they were very likable characters, however,, this film failed to develop their relationship in the manner which I thought it could've, specifically after the Grand Canyon scene, where their relationship was taking a toll. Ultimately tough, all ends well, with Peter's baby being delivered and Ethan starring on Two and a Half Men (fictitious episode, by the way). All in all, fun movie, very good actors, sound concept, but a let-down in the final execution.

Due Date's greatest sin is that you hate the main characters. Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr) is a a hateful man who spits at dogs, hits children, and steals from helpless people. Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) is a complete weirdo, actor wannabe who is neither likable nor charming. By the end of the movie, Peter does not like Ethan much more than when they first met; their 'friendship' seems more of a chore than a bond. In the film's worst sequence, Ethan, the weirdo who can't act, is thrown five feet into the air in the back of a pick up truck as Peter and his pal laugh in the cabin. The joke is that a bad thing is happening to a down-on-his-luck character that you generally feel sorry for. This is not good comedy.

I have watched this movie since it came out five years ago and to be honest I was really confused when I decided to review it on IMDb. 6.6 out of 10 is not that low but it's pretty low for what I expected. OK, I happen to love both these actors and so, an eight makes sense for me, but I would at least expect an overall 7/10...! This is an amazing comedy, lots of funny moments there, not the hilarious really obvious ones, but moments with laughter that is deeply rooted in the traits of each character. The laughs that this movie gets are, most of them, intelligent laughs. This is not a movie with jokes that everyone gets. And that's a good thing. The plot is amazing and the acting, upon which the movie heavily depends, both from Galifianakis and Downey Jr., was amazing! Just amazing! The supporting cast carried the movie as well with no problems, actually adding nice elements to the story (like the war veteran). This is a classic that will get laughs out of you no matter how many times you watch it. Yesterday it was my third time and I still laughed most of the time. Good job!
