Best movie of this year hands down!
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
This movie needs a prepared mentality for it.. how prepared?... if you are religious and christian then you could enjoy this movie by comparing the elements in it to what is known in Christianity.. if you are religious and not christian you could also enjoy it as a christian do even some of the elements in the movie you do not agree with.. now if you are not religious then there is a slight chance that you like this movie if you see it as fictional story.. like any other fictional story you could see that is PG-13.. The movie included an introduction to a family when later loses a member of it.. a grieving member of that family got an unusual invitation to a "magical world" to meet "God".. The dialogue with "God" and the "magical world" discovery is almost the whole movie!.. There are very good actors and actresses that really attracted audience to this movie but then they did not give a realistic feeling and reaction to what it is suppose to be sometimes. The scenes were amazing .. artistic direction is good.. the CGI quality is lower than expected at some points.. story line is expected after the first 20 minutes and there are couple of emotional scenes that will make me re-watch them several times. It could be difficult to watch if you are not religious or do not like christian movies but if you watch it as fictional story then you might like it!
Whether you are Christian or not, this movie has so much to offer. But be in the right place before taking it on. For me at times it was deeply emotional and heart-wrenching and yes, the odd tear, as well as being uplifting and joyous. If you have built a wall against anything to do with God or spiritual matters, then this movie probably will not be worth sacrificing your two hours. But for anyone struggling with loss, heart-ache, trauma, abuse and harsh religious experiences, this movie has an enlightened and liberating message. The acting is superb, especially by Sam Worthington who is so convincing in his role as Mack. It is a faithful and skilful rendition of the book and I did not imagined that it could be done so well. It is a deep, thoughtful movie, requiring your full attention, but view with your heart as well as your mind.
This film resonated deeply with me and my family. I've seen what the loss of a child can do and felt the loss of a sibling. I haven't found truer depiction of what loss, love and finding God through such pain and suffering can do for a family. I definitely do not think that this film is only for the religious and I think that the message is important for everyone to hear and see. I myself am not extremely religious and do have my doubts, but there is no truer message the one 'The Shack' is trying to tell. What forgiveness can do and the healing it can accomplish is shown beautifully in 'The Shack' and the pain of letting go is portrayed just as it is in real life. Although not everyone has been able to meet the Trinity and receive the help that Mack got, what God helped him to do and what he felt is felt and done by many others, and I think the film does an amazing job of showing that.Thank you
Definitely a faith based movie so if thats not your "cup of tea" then this movie is not for you. The theology wasn't a bullseye but it hit it's intended target. With that said I didn't find anything that offensive. If you go in with that in mind then you will probably enjoy the movie. I did.
