Good concept, poorly executed.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

This was a 'Lifetime' drama meant for bored people needing a boost in the afternoon. Seriously. And with Nick...the lack of personality and movement was so so so disappointing. He seemed bored and overwhelmed by the female leads. They just swallowed him up. (His hair was utterly unprofessional given the role) The women did a decent job. Okay one scene was a bit too ridiculous, the outburst at a baby shower - but I made it through. The Lab tech guy could not have been more wooden. He really couldn't have been. Who was this guy? And wow, after a C section evil woman is just up and moving around like it was all nothing. OH my gosh, I'm starting to ramble as all sorts of scenes come to mind; time to stop. It's a time waster, don't expect too much.

Nicolas Cage is constantly berated for his acting, sometimes fairly, sometimes unfairly. In this one, he's playing a normal guy, not wild and crazy. While this may seem disappointing to some, he carries it off just fine. The problem with this movie is 100% with the terrible script. I have no idea what the writer was thinking. A woman tracks down her donated eggs and embeds herself in the IVF parents lives. Just the concept is so ridiculous, it's hard not to laugh. Then add in the performance of Nicky Whelan, and the lines everybody has to deliver and it's an absolute garbage movie. The worst part, though, is it's not bad enough to enjoy. It takes itself seriously, so there aren't even campy laughs. While watching I was thinking back to another Whelan/Cage movie, Left Behind. That was an awful, awful movie, BUT it was so bad that it was easy to laugh at . This doesn't even have that saving grace.Stay far far away from this one. Even if you are a Nic Cage fan.

This could have been a really good movie. It had all the elements, and kept my attention, but there were too many random jumps in time and things that just weren't explained. The big one? How did Katie even become their surrogate. We can assume that once Linda died, Katie was the next logical choice, but it's a scene that should have been left in. Nicky Whelan did a great job, but I can't help but wonder what would have happened if the role had not been recast. It's too bad really since this movie had a lot of potential. Storyline had potential, twists were nice, but just too many things that could have gone in there to have it make a little more sense and keep it flowing a little more smoothly.Cage was wasted completely in this movie. He has his highs and lows, but this was definitely a low. Anyone could have played the role of Brian -- it was a supporting role at best, and there was no personality given to his character. Gina Gershon is always fabulous, but she wasn't given a lot to work with either unfortunately. Ultimately, this would have worked better as a Lifetime made-for-TV movie instead of a theatrical release. It had amazing potential, and is still worth checking out, but is definitely not theatre-calibre.
