Head of the Family (1996)

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

The acting in this movie is really good.

I get angry when I think about this movie. When I look at the box cover my anger increases. This is the typical horror movie that has been for years on your local Blockbuster's horror shelf and no one has ever picked it up.I tend to rent a good movie and a terrible movie. I usually watched the good movie with my girlfriend or family and then, at midnight or later ir possible I watch alone the bad one.When I rented this crap I also rented The Insider (one of the best movies I've seen). I had a good taste in my mouth after watching it, but then HEAD OF THE FAMILY one of the worst horror movies ever made ruined my day. Castle Freak is a great horror film by Full Moon Pictures, why would they ever release a movie like this?! They've shown that they can make a good horror movie, why not follow the winning formula of Castle Freak?HEAD OF THE FAMILY has some elements (out dated by the way) like lots of nudity, gore, and a villain. The problem here is that none of the basic slasher elements work for this atrocity. I can't say if it's a horror comedy, a sci-fi mess, or an ultra low budget horror movie.I just know that it fails on everything! The storyline is a mess, it tried to spoof (I like to think so) TCM and Re-Animator but it just didn't work.But there's something good about the movie: Jacqueline Lovell. Her sex scenes are kinky! fit perfect in the B-movie label. She's hot! The scene where she's tied isn't violent, it's hot! Anyways, when you think that the best feature of a Horror movie is a hot woman, then it means that the movie is a total mess.I'm not whining, I'm preventing anyone from renting this one. Avoid it like the plague!1/10.

~Spoiler~I decided to have a Blake Bailey double feature and watched...well, just about the only two movies he ever starred in: Lurking Fear and this, Head of the Family. Head of the Family is a decent attempt at a horror/comedy from director Robert Talbot (Charles Band, we know it's you). It takes place in the small Southern town of Nobs Hollow and revolves around The less-than-normal Stackpool family and a diner owner who is blackmailing them. He is blackmailing them because he saw them do what all weird families who live in isolated places do: kill and torture innocent passerby's. Oh, and because they're stinkin' rich. Surprisingly, it did make me laugh a few times. I enjoyed it because, it being a Full Moon flick, it was thirty times better than their usually horror dealings. When you're used to seeing Seed People and Curse of the Puppet Master, Head of the Family is a delightful masterpiece. I also dug it because I was in the mood for something dumb. Just some old fashioned, check-your-brain-at-the-door kinda fun. If you go into the movie that way, I don't see how you can't have fun with it. It is just a B-movie after all.

I was suprised at all the negative reviews, this is actually a darn good film from Mr. Band. "Benjamin Carr" coughs up a decent enough screenplay full of quirky characters and clever one liners. The head is genuinely creepy and the other characters are completely sleazy. Highly recommended, one of full moons better films.

A couple of friends and myself visited the video shop a few years back and we were in one of those moods to rent some cheesy non seen flicks. My friend grabbed Head of the Family and we were greeted by a head sitting in a wheelchair. Well that set us off laughing and we decided to have a bet to see who would be the one who had to go to the desk and pay for the movie. Well you guessed it, it was me!!!!!!!! I have never been so embarrised in all my life. We got home and put it on and we rolled about the floor laughing for about 45mins because this was the funniest film in the world. I cant remember much about it but one thing i do remember was the blonde girl getting it on with some guy in the back of a shop every 5 mins. That head made me laugh and when i look at other peoples comments aboout this movie it makes me laugh even more. Head of the family is so good and the head is funny and im still laughing ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
