In the mid-1960s, wealthy debutant Edie Sedgwick meets artist Andy Warhol. She joins Warhol's famous Factory and becomes his muse. Although she seems to have it all, Edie cannot have the love she craves from Andy, and she has an affair with a charismatic musician, who pushes her to seek independence from the artist and the milieu.

When I heard of this movie, I thought, "Oh good! Edie and Andy Warhol fans will be ecstatic, and kids who've never heard of either will be mesmerized by Edie's tragic beauty and story." Wrong. "Factory Girl" is the clever title for a shamefully Hollywood depiction of the life and times of Edith M. Sedgwick during her time as a Warhol superstar, narrated occasionally by post-drugs, post-Warhol Edie at a psychiatric hospital in 1971. As many other reviews have pointed out, Sienna Miller has been praised as looking like "a twin of Edie." Wrong, again. It is understandable that no one can exactly recreate Edie's quasi-androgynous, fluid, gamine and distinctly individual dark beauty, but Miller looks like a fast Halloween knockoff of Edie. Not even Edie, more like a cheap version of an American Twiggy. And the personality? Not even close. Edie is presented as an innocent, impressionable, unintelligent and unsophisticated child who is used and abused by Warhol, who is bizarrely cruel and childish, though Guy Pearce as Warhol is a pretty believable physical facsimile of the Pop artist. But back to Edie, who in reality, came from a very wealthy and high-society family, was an artist in her own right, and was received immensely well by the Factory crowd for her poise, intelligence, and actress/director versatility. She was not only a muse for Warhol, but a confidante and peer. The most confusing part of this already false depiction of Edie, though, is the Bob Dylan character/romance. Yes, it's true that Edie had something of a crush on Dylan for a period of time, ultimately leading to her break with the Warhol camp for Dylan's attention, claiming to be making a movie with him. But this was a very brief period in Edie's life, leaving him certainly not "the biggest mistake" of her life. She had a much more of a strong affair with Bob Neuwirth, Dylan's right hand man. It's plain to see why the film went in this direction; Edie's life was too messy and too realistically human for Hollywood, and a central romance was easy to portray. Hayden Christensen is pretty pathetic as "Billy Quinn," anyway. So, for all potential Edie/Warhol fans who are looking to find out more about either: don't watch this movie looking for truth. It's nothing but Hollywood debris based on early 60's New York. Watch "Ciao! Manhattan," the original Warhol films, look on Tumblr for the "Only Edie Sedgwick" account, and do your own otherwise research. Just don't rely on this movie.

I'm glad that I didn't read the reviews prior to watching this film, because it was very entertaining and engrossing. The Dylan character was poorly played and over-the-top, like everyone says, but otherwise, this is a wild ride, and interesting to look at.The director's commentary is interesting, too, and Hickenlooper makes it clear which scenes were added in, and why, on the DVD version. I can see why the theater release was reviewed so poorly, as re-watching this film makes it clear how relevant the "restored" scenes are. Also, a lot of the reviews cite that the Edie character elicits no sympathy. That may be true, depending on the viewer, but there's no rule that says a good movie requires a sympathetic character (but I did feel sympathy for Edie).

I see that a lot of people have watched this film and jumped straight on the computer to analyse every second of it and criticise every factual inaccuracy. That is part of what makes this film so great in my eyes.Everybody is of course entitled to their opinion of it and not everybody is going to like it. Personally I loved the film; not for its plot or the acting or the way in portrayed the life of Warhol and Sedgwick. I loved it because of the way it was constructed and how it comes together as a final article. In my eyes it is a film how films should be. It is itself a piece of art. In this case it just so happens to be based on true events of life imitating art.The dialogue is excellent and the acting has the same extravagance as the characters the film portrays.I love that so many people have such strong reactions to this film and that most of the reviews you will see are either 1 star or 10 stars. The fact that a film can evoke this emotion from people is nothing short of amazing, it's not made for the people to love it. It's made for the sake of making an excellent artistic film.I believe that by the simple fact of this reaction to it, the film has accomplished everything that it set out to do and Mr. Hickenlooper should feel proud. Wes Anderson fans will most likely understand and love this.

I wish i would've met Edie Sedgwick , of how idiotic and purely lovely she was , of how cheeky and thickly lovable person she was , but generally you know what is the problem ? Sienna Miller is NOT . screw details, here we have another Biography | Drama kinda movie. and it is walking in the edge rising and falling fare well . looks like a memorial of how 21 years old Edie rise just joining the porno graphical worthless underground movies of Andy Warhol . though i cant bare judging this raw , but what better idea it can be with such movies.who knows this things? they're kind of art? then go F**k yourselves .1964 and young 21 years old Edie Sedgwick(Sienna Miller) is about to go to art,but her famous and rich far more about thoughts family never let her to do it.she goes party to party with her youth energy to find the gate.finally she finds Andy Warhol(Guy Pearce) who is a little bit bisexual(Jeez what a shame) and works in his independent studio named Factory.she woks in the art work(F**k if i know)a while and making underground movies with him until he meets Bob Dylan(Hayden Christensen) and they start to have relationship.after she screws up with Dylan and Andy, she starts to ruin herself with Drug Addiction and drinking problems.her family force her to rehab in a hospital in 1970.she dies in 1971 of a drug overdose.so many 28 or 27 years old people died during the start of 70 decade.Jim Morrison,Jimi Hendrix,Janis Joplin and ... Edie is one of lost souls of early 70s too.the angel of downtown underworld factory production movies of Andy Warhol.even Andy indicated that he felt some kind of love with Edie that he never felt like before.anyway now both are dead.pulling out of dead people the movie really is not a big something. Sienna Miller is harshly trying to mimic like Edie, spectacular similarities they both have, but because i have not seen Edie before,i cant judge of how she was.but in such weak movie , her performance is good.you know i believe they don't make a decent Biography film nowadays and its not Sienna's problem . its just that it is not a costly production with superstars.Edie herself was not a superstar and the only bright spot can be her ended relation with Bob Dylan.it was nice to meet you Edie, may you rest in piece forever. may that interrupted soul will settle somewhere in the time...
