In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

First of all, not a fan of Larry David (or Jerry Seinfeld for that matter). What he considers comedy doesn't even give me the slightest feeling of comedic delight. I haven't yet watched Curb, but I'll definitely give it a try one of these days. I hope it's better than this. I'm still optimistic that Larry David could deliver one way or another, but the more I watch him perform in anything, the less I expect. People I consider funny: Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Will Ferrell, Louis CK etc. Larry David (and Jerry Seinfeld) aren't even close. Their kind of comedy is mostly for old people. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against Jewish-American comedy, because I'm sure some who reads this may think that since I'm mentioning Seinfeld in one sentence with Larry David, is because they're both Jewish-American. No, absolutely not. Their style is very similar. Many Jewish comedians are legendary in my opinion: Andy Kaufman, Jerry Lewis, Billy Crystal, Mel Brooks. I also like Brad Garrett, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, Amy Schumer, Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller (their early stuff). It's just Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, Fran Drescher, Joan Rivers or even Woody Allen I more than often can't wrap my head around, because I very rarely hear anything funny leave their mouths. It really amazes me how extremely popular and successful they are. To me, their success should be written in the dictionary, right next to *what's the definition of a paradox?*Anyway, I went a little bit off topic there. Back to Clear History: It's just not funny enough to even be considered a comedy. I'm sure that if Bill Murray had played the main role with Harold Ramis supporting and Ivan Reitman writing the script, this would've been a blast. Disappointing, considering how much comedic talent (Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Jon Hamm) and famous people (Michael Keaton, Amy Ryan, Eva Mendes, Kate Hudson) are in this. This should've been way better. 4.4/10

I do watch Curb Your Enthusiasm and think it's a funny but crazy show. When I found this movie on HBO I just read the plot, I didn't read any reviews. If I had done that I might have understood that this is a movie very much featuring Larry Davids mind and ideas. It is like a long episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm with a similar kind of plot. It's a movie about a very "special" person that always feels the need to say everything he thinks out loud and that always feels neglected. Just like Larry in Curb Your Enthusiasm. It is a funny movie but I think some may think it's a bit too much like Curb Your Enthusiasm. It even has the same kind of music. The movie is entertaining but quirky!

A much better film than I anticipated from the director of 'Superbad'. This is a television film, that's the sad part, but the production quality was like made for the big screens. From the title to the performances and the locations, all were very good. This is the tale of a man who gave up his share in a startup to realise it a few years later that he had lost a big fortune. And his second chance, how he's going to react and what he gets is what the film was focused. The casting was really good. Even for the tiny roles, many big names came in. But Larry David ruled as the story presented from his perspective. Don't ignore it thinking it is a small screen product, because this was a unique story and very entertaining. Almost a perfect flick, including a fine pace. But in a few segments, it dragged with unnecessary scenes. More like unneeded developments to stretch the runtime. Though there's no complaint for the overall film. It's not a must see film, but if you miss it you are going to miss out a good entertainment. And finally, I liked the end credits.7/10

I am a huge fan of curb your enthusiasm, and have seen all the seasons and episodes, and also Larry David's Sour Grapes which was decent. When I heard about this I was looking forward to it because he hasn't made a movie in a while. However this demonstrates what some of the other reviews have already mentioned. This was an attempt of Larry applying the same kind of humor and jokes we see in Curb, to a full length movie, but like others said, the Characters are completely wooden and you could care less what happened to them. The premise was interesting but then it goes downhill quick. The twist at the end was cool, where you realize if he hadn't burned the house down he would have been able to collect the money after all. Other than that the script was unoriginal, lame, and predictable. In sour grapes at least the 2 guys are somewhat likable, and the premise somewhat realistic, but here the movie just drags waiting for you to end and proves Larry should not have starred in it, someone else would have probably fit the role better. He could have made a cameo appearance such as in Sour Grapes and with a better script it would have had a chance. 0/10 a horrible film and waste of time.
