Excellent but underrated film
Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film, like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
Stop making Pacific Rim. Just, stop. We were not hopping you can make it real epic, just make it cool is enough. You got one job from us ,and you ruined it. So just, stop before we had enough.
Movie was way too light if you think that world is going down and thousands lost their lives. This should be 16y and over, then it would have chance to be a good movie. Lightness and deaths doesn't add up this kind of movie. Disappointing.
With Steven S. DeKnight as director, you might expect something bold, violent, dramatic, cunning, and original. His Spartacus series was excellent in that regard. Uprising is different though, it's a simpler story with just a basic framework for the main show - the effects battles and scenes. You are challenged to suspend belief in many scenes, for the sake of moving things along and serving the next action scene. One scene in particular is bizarre. There's a scene in an elevator which is simplified to a bunch of "guys" are apparently shot and killed in the elevator by other guys, but we're not shown how this happens. "let's just skip over and make light of the point blank execution-style killing that just took place". Some of the fights and effects are enjoyable in the final battle. The agility of the robots is good. At points it's a bit like someone's mum took control of the script. In the end, Pacific Rim: Uprising tries to cash in, then makes movie. It's okay in parts, but a bit disappointing on main guts of story details. Doesn't need to be Blade Runner, but could at least try a bit more in that direction.
We never needed the sequel, and this had failed to prove me wrong. At least I made it to the end
