I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

Anytime you use a movie to try and send controversial societal messages, YOU LOSE! This was like a ship with without a rudder, with awkward dialogue, and a terrible plot.I gave this a 2 because I really like Ice Cube...but I gotta say this movie pretty much sucked, it should be called "The Final Cut". This movie tried to use real life as a political backdrop, but then created the most unrealistic setting/story-line/script...c'mon you can't be both, either your a fantastical movie about a quirky urban barbershop, or you're boyz-n-the-hood. There was a lot of dialogue going in this flick, the problem is this is supposed to be a fun comedy not a soap box to propagate more anger about things that are so controversial (and fabricated) like Trevon, Freddie, or Brown (all of which who were found through evidence and truth, to have been at fault). The hate mongers in society are making things worse by mis- portraying, the media who are starved for ratings and viewership are feeding on it and the victims are the misguided souls who eat it up and hold signs...and sadly Hollywood is trying to capitalize on it.I wished I had of passed this one up.

Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer return in a belated sequel Barbershop: The Next Cut which feels less like a comedy and more a dramedy with socio-political commentary relating to gang violence in Chicago. The Barber shop is now mixed with a female co-owner and had Nicky Minaj as a brassy hairdresser who makes a play for Ice Cube's best friend and fellow hairdresser Common. There is plenty of making fun and discussing topical issues but gang violence gets in the forefront as Ice Cube's son is getting older and wilder. Ice Cube thinks the neighbourhood is no longer safe and wants to move out for the sake of his son.Not sure offering free haircuts would ever end gang violence but the film felt mawkish and heavy handed when the comedy should had been in the forefront.

This movie was supposed to be a comedy but quickly turned into garbage. Loved the first movie and had high hopes for the sequel and then this crap comes out. Getting tired of seeing all this BLM stuff on TV and how racism is still alive and effecting our communities but it's OK to promote and advertise that same garbage in movies. Want to overcome racism, try not promoting it and reminding everybody every second of the day about it. I'm by no way in hell a racist, so please let's not jump to conclusions. This movie has to be the worst piece of garbage Ice Cube's been in. There is nothing comedic about this movie. The movie is pure propaganda. Sadly disappointing

I was gonna give this one a 7 but than realized how much this movie surprised me. I liked about every bit of it and especially for a comedy that is rare. The basic story is solid but the natural equal approach was extremely refreshing. Everyone had a good role to play and all got some time to shine and all of their characters developed through the course of the movie.None of all of there celebrity status is felt in this movie and especially Nicky Minaj and Eve acted very "down to earth". Icecube is in the center of all this running the barbershop and he was very convincing as a parent and a dad who has to chosse between the risky location of the barbershop or his family.I've been a hip hop fan all my life so I saw a lot of Icecube's movies but never really got into the barbershop movies. Now that I've seen this one I will definitely revisit them to see how they hold up to this one.A good mix of comedy and drama,a well written script funny and with a message and a talented cast to execute it.This is a movie with real meaning to it,I highly recommend it.But seriously...it's also great fun.Enjoy!
