It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

This is one of the - very - few war films that actually show war for what it really is, and what it means for the civilians caught up in it. There are no impressive explosions and visual effects, adrenaline-driven missions or brotherly scenes of camaraderie. This film shows humanity's dark side without flinching. Hard to stomach but highly recommended. 8 stars out of 10.In case you're interested in more underrated masterpieces, here's some of my favorites:imdb.com/list/ls070242495

As others have said,EASILY Quaids BEST work. During this period it was tough due to the DNA Stainer's position on the Serbs to get anything that showed the Muslim's atrocities. It was ALL anti Serb All the time and basically negative PR Crap. Many of us were there and we have 2400 troops still there. A friend of mine was Commanding General of all US Forces in Yugo, first name David, look it up. The Serbs were our ALLIES all through WW2 and the others as seen in the Movie Force 10 From Navarone were all Nazi loving death camp makers. LOOK IT UP, there were many massive death camps in Yugo, ALL run by the Muslims. I love it when a movie or documentary, or docu drama comes out from the OTHER point of view. Too bad it didn't get more awards or money.

This movie is simply put astounding as far as anti war emotions goes. Quaid's character actually puts you in awestruck......WOW!This is one of those films which you should see alone only in order to capture the very essence of humanity with a broader spectrum of emotion. The end narrates beautifully the everlasting battle of life & death.I was fourteen when I first saw this movie and even after 11 long years it kept me captivated in the very essence of human joyousness. I wonder why Dennis Quaid is up with the G.I.Joe thing, instead a actor of his quality should excel in doing roles which explores humanity even in the darkest quarter of life. This cinema is one fine example of story telling. A 8 out of 10 for me.

Of the best of movies I've ever watched. The only movie thats ever made me cry... Must watch, though not a Hollywood movie ! Needs a bit of patience too, though, trust me its simply worth it. Starts with a demoted soldier, doing sorta soul searching. And then he's involved with this baby and woman in the Bosnian civil war. To start with, the baby's just a nuisance to them, then he's influenced and finally greatly moved. He fights odds to get the baby and the mother out alive. Towards the end, the mother sacrifices her life for the baby. This one scene is worth a hundred "Pianists" ! .......................................
