The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

I love this film, it is so true to the original, the comic books it's great. The voices of Yogi and Boo Boo were perfect and now we go on picernics in our house, not those boring picnic things. It is good to know that there are still people in the film making world who really enter into the spirit of childhood and truth. My husband can't stop saying 'Smarter than the average bear' (which he is) and the children of the house love doing Yogi and Boo Boo's dance. If anyone thinks that this movie isn't great they've 'got a kink in their think'. That's without going into the environmental messages; explaining the danger of fireworks to your scarf if you don't take care of Health and Safety. How do you choose your best bit? The Basket Nabber 2000 designed by an advocate of Heath Robinson? The dejector dinghy? The frog mouthed turtle? Yogi trying to be an average bear and foraging? Congratulations to all involved

Yogi Bear and his sidekick Boo Boo help Ranger Smith to foil a greedy politician's plan to exploit Jellystone Park for profit. This real-life/CGI adaptation of the classic Hanna Barbera cartoon is a real boo-boo: it's rarely funny, the story is trite, the characters are irritating, and Anna Faris hasn't been cute or sexy since she went blonde and had her face messed about with. The effects and voice talent are, for the most part, passable, but never exceptional. That leaves the amusing frog-mouthed turtle as the only really worthwhile thing about the whole film, and when a film's greatest asset is a comical digital reptile that only appears in a small fraction of the action, then it's time to pack away the pic-a-nic baskets for good.

This movie fulfilled all the expectations I had. I grew up watching dubbed Yogi Bear cartoons and I am kind of a fan of that kind of humor. Simplistic yet profound in some way, and always with a very positive attitude. That is exactly what this movie delivers. Plain old simple jokes for everybody, kids and parents. If, like myself, you're a fan of Yogi Bear you won't be disappointed. Indeed this was the best carton to big screen adaptation I've seen. If you didn't use to watch the cartoon, then I don't know what your expectations might be, but I noticed most of the people are expecting what this movie is not.The movie is very laid back. Photography and scenes are also very fresh and so is the cast performance. The cast fits the characters very well and gets the job done, there's no intense dramatic dialogs, but keep in mind that this is kid movie. The interaction between Yogi (and his faithful friend Booboo) and Ranger Smith is the cornerstone of Yogi Bear. The are friends and enemies at the same time. This passes a very positive message to the kids and the movie does it in a very faithful way, just like it was done in the cartoons. The other most characteristic aspect Yogi is his obsession for human food. Again, that is well featured in the movie.A disturbing yet positive thing about this movie is the realism of the Town Mayor character's personality. It's supposed to be a caricature, but is a very accurate one. Finally, computer generated characters and living ones work very well on this movie. Unlike most of the movies that resource to this mix, the cartoon characters blend well with the rest of the scene.Great entertainment for all the family with some classic Yogi jokes.

I'm not going to claim that this destroyed my childhood. Mostly because I've always hated Yogi Bear. He's a terrible character. He's stupid, arrogant, and very selfish. He has, and never will have, any redeeming features. All he does is infuriate those around him. The film in general is also an abomination. Kids films don't have to be smart or emotional, just entertaining. This film is stuck in a comedic blackhole. Jokes about farts and poo! HAHA! Bears dancing to Sir-Mix-A-Lot? Really? That song is still funny? Wasn't it overused in Friends and Shrek years ago? Did Yogi Bear EVER dance? The plot is typical, but also adds pointless 3D effects. This is also probably why the film is unbearably bright. Watching it in 2D is even more painful. Yogi and BooBoo just don't fit in with their surroundings. They didn't have to look real. But their interactions with the real world did, like Who Framed Roger Rabbit?! The actors don't even look like they know how to hug thin air. A big problem in such a movie. This is a miss on so many levels.
