I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

This film had some original ideas, though I feel the execution went wrong. I enjoyed the soundtracks and visually it was stunning. The development started off as engrossing and character development felt natural, though as the plot continued it started to visibly become predictable. Since Simon and James had different personalities, one thing I didn't quite understand was why they dressed the same on most occasions. The story became weaker as it proceeded in its development. The ending didn't feel very genuine to me as I found it predictable. I think the movie had potential and could have easily become a topper with minimal changes from the producers.

I must have missed something or maybe I'm just completely missing the point but I really don't get why this movie would score such a score. It is incredibly boring, from the first second to the last second you won't see anything interesting. After watching the first ten minutes you basically know this movie isn't going anywhere and that you're losing precious time of your life. The only reason I didn't score it the lowest possible is because of the techniques of filming. You can clearly see that he knows what he's doing. But with filming techniques alone you won't make a good movie. You also need a good story and good actors. It just lacks both of them. The Double is such an annoying movie, a pure waste of your time.

I can imagine that this is a film that divides the audience based on how much you relate to the situation the main character is in. This movie does a great job displaying how it feels to be socially outside your community, and feeling that you're always getting the wrong end of the stick. It's obviously not a realistic portrayal, but it's one that's very relatable to people being in similar situations. And I think that on some level, everyone feels kind of like this, in the sense that it seems that everyone else understands or knows something that you don't. I think the movie captures this feeling, along with shyness, in a great way.The visual style is reminiscent of movies like Brazil, which kind of has the same hopelessness baked into them.At times, the plot stumbles a little bit in itself, but it usually picks itself up again pretty quickly. I enjoyed the performances all around, and I'm curious to see other movies from the director.

I found this movie very fascinating, with all of its twists and turns I was engaged throughout. There were so many different things to look out for in this movie that it was hard to keep track of it all. With how the lighting was to the length of each shot to the sound in the background, it was a movie that was always visually and mentally interesting. Having a little bit of experience in the film making process I could enjoy watching the Double while also thinking about what everything I was watching meant. When we were first introduced to Simon James, he is in a train. There is no one else with him, I believe this is to symbolize how isolated he is all the time. Then when a man tells him to move he gives up easily and this is a part of Simon's character development throughout the movie. Throughout the movie the colors on screen have a greenish-yellow filter over them which shows just how grimy and unclean the world Simon lives in is. Also, during the whole movie, it's nighttime. Almost like they are inside throughout the whole thing. The creators of this film did that to show how closed in the world is and what little escape Simon has from the terrible life he's living. All of the previously stated observations made this movie really cool to watch. I liked picking out the little things that made this movie unique. When I was watching I liked how the colors and light were consistent to keep up the theme of the movie. All of the technical components had a big part in the story line and what the directors wanted us to think and feel from this movie.
