The Iceman (2013)

Redundant and unnecessary.

It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Although this film has been out for a few years, I have only just seen it - and it is impressive.Michael Shannon's portrail of real-life hit man Richard Kuklinski is absolutely superb. You really feel drawn into his world at various stages of his 'career', including the conflicts between his chosen profession while trying to maintain some kind of normal family life.There are plenty of moments in this film that will take you by surprise on your journey with the character.This film is well worth setting aside time to watch so you become fully engrossed in the story.

Fellow reviewer hawkensian somewhat tainted my review by revealing some significant omissions and liberties taken by the scriptwriters. I am not aware of the deeper background of Kuklinski and his extensive history so I came into the movie this way.So that aside, on its face, this is a very good movie regardless. Acting was stellar by the entire cast, and was glad to see David Schwimmer take on a drama quite handily. Well done. The score was alright, although a bit heavy in some places. Good pacing, costumes and sets should also be mentioned.

Actor Michael Shannon carries nearly every scene as the character of Richard Kuklinski in this picture, when encountering one-by-one the supporting cast, starting out from actress Winona Ryder as his wife Deborah in a charming introduction scene at a dinner, followed by meeting the employing character of Roy Demeo, performed in "GoodFellas" recalling mode by Ray Liotta, the one character, who's resolution gets dropped by the end, while every one else, including actor Chris Evans as welcoming beyond Captain America character of Mr. Freezy and a one scene appearance by actor James Franco of minor significance as struggling advantage-looking artist Marty Freeman, had been sent a bill by Michael Shannon's dominating acting appearance.Director Ariel Vromen made sure that the cinematography under Bobby Bukowski keeps afloat at all times, finding the most engaging angles with atmospheric lighting shifts in a film, which elegantly covers time periods from 1964 to 1986 within a compact running time of 100 Minutes (excluding the end crawler) makes "The Iceman" highly recommended to an audience appreciating power house acting, constant thrills and a 10 Million $ production budget well-spent under watchful surveillance of industry's producing specialist Avi Lerner, having giving space for a motion picture product, which does not need to shy away from a comparison of crime thriller genre-owning directors as Martin Scorsese.© 2017 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)

I'm extremely surprised this movie didn't do well at the box office, but perhaps it is due to people's unfamiliarity with the real Iceman the story is based off of. Overall its a great movie, and a classic gangster film for fans of the genre.
