It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

This movie is about as average as you can get. The story itself isn't really important, pretty average for a light crime flick, but it's not really in focus. It's mostly about the characters, and I'll grant the movie this, they are for the most part decently played and engaging enough. The main character who carries us through the flick has her charms, and I did quite like the voiceover, that tries to be hard boiled but is clearly inexperienced about it. The main guy, Morelli, played by Jason O'Mara, is nowhere near as charming as the movie seems to think, and some of his attempts at flirting wih our lead are not much more than uncomfortable. I won't go into it too much, but there was a bit of a troubling undercurrent of the movie of the minority characters either being jokes or bastards, in a way that came off uncomfortably to me. Nothing about this movie seemed malignant (hell too much flavor either way might disturb it's made-for-tv-ness), but it's not impressing on many nuance fronts. All in all, acceptable watch if you really have emptied out Netflix and the popcorn's already made, but otherwise not enough style or substance to be particularly memorable.

I don't know i must be easily pleased or its my age 66, but the reviews are a bit off for this film, I must watch a different movie. I really enjoyed it, paid £2.49 through Amazon to watch it, and spent a great couple of hours just chilling out, and having fun watching it. Its a crime romp with Katherine Heigl and the yummy Jason O'Mara so there is eye candy for both male and female. The plot is explained so i wont go there, just all I can say is if you want something to watch, and you like comedy, romance and a bit of crime romp then you cant go wrong with this. Its fun I am not sure I would have paid to see in cinema but to watch it for the price I did, lets face it, what can you get really for 2.49 nowadays so its worth the money. Go on you know you want too.

I like this movie. Admittedly, there are no great surprises and if you've read the books you'll pretty much know what happens, but otherwise, people would be outraged that creative license was taken.I won't got into the details of the plot. Some Reviewer's wrote that's it's impossible to like this movie if you're a fan of the books. And while I accept that this is their view, I can't say that I agree. The plot in the movie generally follows the book, with a few deviations, but None of them dramatic. Some Reviewer's have complained that Big Blue was 70s and not 50s and while this is true, I can't say that it really mattered to me. It was a total boat, that's the main thing. For the most part, the casting is good. I was skeptical about the main cast, especially when I saw stills of the movie. I thought Heigl was too pretty to be Stephanie and the lead men on the other hand were not handsome enough. But that turned out to be unfounded, once I was watching the movie, they seemed perfect. Some have complained that Ranger smiles too much, but when you read the book and have time to develop the character, that's fine. If you just have a few Scenes in a movie, that would seem creepy. So I think they made a good choice. Anyway. It's not like he's running around with a constant girn on his face. He's suitably subdued and I think Daniel Sunjata did a very good Job of portraying Ranger. Lula and Connie are great, Vinnie is excellent, the only let-down was Grandma Mazur. I had imagined her to be tiny and wiry and she wasn't. She sat wrong with me, but maybe that's just my impression. And even that didn't matter too much to me.Bottom line, I don't understand why this movie gets so much stick. It's fine. I was going to rate it seven, but am going to rate it eight because the 5-something rating seems ridiculously low to me. Make up your own mind. But take it from a fan of the books: It is NOT impossible to like this movie.

It is not often these days for Hollywood to produce such a dark and visceral crime drama as One for the Money. It is a work that has solidified itself in the canon of its genre. Set in the crime infested Alaskan city of Anchorage, Katherine Heigl portrays a hardened gumshoe looking for a shred of humanity as she journeys through a sordid world full of urban decadence and human filth. The plot is simple; there has been a string of rape/homicides of blonde females in Anchorage. Heigl has been put on the case due to her background in Special Forces. Once the wheels are in motion, what unfolds is perhaps one of the most authentic and poignant stories about the human condition, in the history of film.Like an anaconda slithering through a swamp, we witness Heigl navigate through her gritty world with ease as she sifts through semen covered crime scenes, sells crack to junkies in exchange for information, and engages in a lustful love-hate relationship with a diabetic stripper named Myrtle. After viewing this film for the fifth time, I can safely say that there hasn't been a more raw and honest depiction of a flawed, inner city, homicide detective, since the character of Detective Ventura in the 1994 Jim Carrey classic. As for her home life, when Heigl is not making pasta salad or cleaning the blood and semen off of her clothing, she soaks in the tub and reminisces about her high school days as a star running back. As the warm water absorbs her pain it becomes clear that an obvious question still haunts her; could she have gone further in her athletic career if she didn't have to drop out of high school to avenge her father's suicide? Perhaps. But the answer to that doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is the work. This is the life she has chosen. And there is a savage killer out there that needs to be brought to justice. The ending of this monumental film is nothing short of unapologetic and bold. It is revealed that Heigl had been the killer all along; raping the women, murdering them and then covering them in semen that she stole from her neighbor, John Leguizamo(plays himself). After she is arrested, she is immediately released and walks away scot-free due to her diplomatic immunity. Like all of the great stories of our time, in the end we are left wanting more as Heigl drives off into the sunset blasting Beyonce's "All the Single Ladies"; a song that once again calls attention to the film's underlying central theme that in this life, we are all alone. We are all single ladies. It would be a bloody, semen drenched crime if Hollywood did not to make a sequel to such a majestic piece of cinema. It should also be said that the masterful cinematography in this film represents the essence of what visual storytelling should aspire to be. I commend the director on his decision to shoot the entire film on a gopro.
