Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

There is no plot in this movie, honestly you keep waiting for something remotely engaging to happen. I had high expectations due to the actors/actresses involved in this film, I was highly disappointed.

I don't rate movies but I use IMDb a lot before deciding to watch a movie. This is my first review because the injustice here was too much for me to bear. I like movies, so will give anything with a 6 or higher a shot. For the most part, the ratings on here are pretty good, not always (I triangulate with a few other sites before committing to a movie). Well this one was WAY OFF. I am glad I did not let the ratings and reviews dissuade me, because this is a great movie.If you like Paul Rudd (I am a big fan), don't mind Reese (I like her even more now), like Owen Wilson (yep), love Jack (who doesn't?) and loved Terms of Endearment and As Good as it Gets, you will NOT REGRET watching this movie. Enjoy.

As someone who loves these types of meet-cute love stories, this was just bad. And the bail out of a comedy is just...not really funny. In fact, it's awfully dark in nature. This is strange, considering James L. Brooks is a genius when it comes to regulating "The Simpsons" but now...after this abomination, I tend to believe, he's lost complete touch with people (something that made "Terms..." so great).It could be that it was original material written by him. Maybe he can criticize what makes a great story, but can't hear it from others. First, the characters are bad. Bad in that they are just terrible human beings. Not unlikeable, just dumb plastic idiots, who say things to service the script. Paul Rudd is dumb. He's swinging in every direction and missing every pitch. I'm sure he realizes that his style of comedy doesn't fit every story. It was bad.Owen Wilson, same as Paul Rudd, it seemed they both didn't understand the type of movie they were in. Grossly mis-casted. He's too dumb looking, and cardboard to be this type of funny. I think with Wes Anderson flicks, it makes sense. Odd-ball and endearing. In this movie, it looks like he stumbled onto a grown-ups table and can't figure his way out.Reese...not sure her facial mannerisms. She has fallen so far from what I remember her searing performance in "Freeway." Yes, she's older now. But her character throws hissy fits like a child, surrounds herself with positive mantras, and is...just really aggravating. Why would any of the two guys want to be around this is beyond me.It seems Brooks direction is stilted and hackey. A fall from a stairwell during a phone call is really hackey. Chaplin couldn't even make that bit work.I am listening to the commentary now...to get some explanation to this pile of thoughts. And it occurred to me that this must be how Brooks sees the modern rom-com society now. A low attention-span idiots movie, done for a money grab. He's not completely wrong (if you've watched recent ones). We only have ourselves to blame.
