This is not funny. This just sick garbage. Why did it get a 6.7. The story line is awful. It just an awful movie. I do not know how any one could put up with it. It is a one 1. I have never seen any anything so awful it my life. If I want to laugh I will watch Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. This is just crap. Dracula dead and loving it is also very funny. Do not wast your time. Do not wast your money do not see this awful movie. John Waters has got to be one of the worst film makers of all time. He should give up his job as a write and a director.

"Serial Mom" has the qualities that many mainstream comedies lack. It can be seen as satire, or you can just turn your brain off and have lots of fun. The dialogue is hysterical and the cast does a wonderful job, especially Kathleen Turner in the title role. In this film, she makes one of the greatest comedic roles in film history. I also love Mink Stole as the neighbor and unknown Patsy Grady Abrams as Emmy Lou, a customer in the local video store who only rents family films - and doesn't rewind! The film oozes with satire of the modern vs. 50's family, the celebrity status we bestow on criminals, plus other topics. I liked the background details such as the monster models I remember having as a kid as well as the Spiro Agnew painting in the courthouse. There were numerous memorable scenes and lines as in most Waters' films. This was probably John Waters's salute to the courtroom groupie phenomena. We can turn mass murderers into celebrities, although I wish he had captured more of the party aspect of it rather than the sale of T shirts and merchandise. With complete control of comedic timing, Turner is flawless here. She chews the scenery to perfection and creates this modified terror with such hilarious grace. Her facial expressions, changing at the drop of a hat, all work together in unity to give off a brilliant aura. The final courtroom scenes are hilarious and the highlights of the film.Overall rating: 7 out of 10.

Funny, quaint, executed well. It's not really a horror film, but more a mixture of slasher and comedy. A refreshing change as the protagonist is a mother, and her family and acting provide fantastic dark comedy. The pace of the film is good, progressing the story in interesting and unpredictable paths, with a satisfying end. Some interesting cinematography and cool shots of action unfolding. The film is kind of cheesy, but in a good way. It's fun to watch and doesn't seem to have any lulls. The films other strength is its believability. It doesn't have many moments you think "That wouldn't happen, they wouldn't do that" etc, and it's fairly clever at setting this up.

I wasn't familiar with director John Waters or dark/black humor-except the Addams Family movies. But since 1993 to the present, I've familiarized myself w/ a lot more. For starters, this was my first movie by JW and one of the first with Kathleen Turner. I first watched this at age 13, so needless to say, I was rather naive then. I've owned it on VHS, DVD(both editions) so obviously, it's one of my favorites. Along with Kathleen Turner, it also stars Ricki Lake and Matthew Lillard as their adult kids, and Sam Waterston as a rather goofy husband. Most of the murders look so goofy, you can't possibly take this seriously, but maybe that was the point. Plus, her killing motives are goofy, not to mention ridiculous, although most involved slander of her family, subtle or major. Even after (finally) seeing Pink Flamingos- funny but gross) Cecil B. Demented-talk about bizarre) Cry-baby-some good musical numbers, both versions of Hairspray-both fairly enjoyable to me, and lastly, Pecker is probably my least favorite, Serial Mom remains my all-time favorite John Waters movie, to this day.
