It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

I came to this film with low expectations and what can I say, I chuckled a few times and rather enjoyed this stoner/slacker modernist take of a medieval adventure.Danny McBride (Thadeous) and James Franco (Fabious) are two princes on a dangerous mission to save their land and rescue Fabious's fiancée Zooey Deschanel (Belladonna.)Older brother Fabious has always been valiant. Thadeous prefers booze, weed and easy maidens. When it comes to combat he tends to stay back. Joined by Natalie Portman (Isabel) a warrior with her own agenda they go on a journey where they meet evil wizards, vanquish terrifying creatures and treacherous knights. This is a silly low brow film with a penchant for a lot of penis jokes and other smutty type of humour. Its not quite Monty Python. Everyone speaks in cod English accents and seem to enjoy themselves including Portman who had recently won a Best Actress Oscar when she made this film. Franco comes across as a bit vacant though. The humour is hit and miss but there is nothing wrong with some hearty, naughty silliness.

This seems a very expensive and concentrated attempt to make a spoof on the Sword and Sorcery Genre. However, it misses out by the sheer inanity and hopelessness of it's puerile jokes that relentlessly drag the film down. If you took all the glib swear jokes out it would make a passable, if regular, quest movie? If you leave them all in, you are continually shaken by their sheer lack of humor and revelry in the lowest common denominator type of schoolboy smut. (Sorry schoolboys everywhere)This was a misses chance as some of the hero's/villains/special effects are truly good. Yet the lead comedian is given the opportunity to stick his boot into all of the scenes, which in the end becomes predictable. (Surely, we can all make crap jokes)Someone somewhere has written on IMDb, in a review/critique, that this film might "give you the opportunity to hear Natalie Portman use the f word". If that, is an example of what the merits of this movie are, then where do we go?

Watching the trailer made me think this movie would be a good choice to watch with my kids on a weekend evening. Which turned out was not the right conclusion. There are many explicit sex related scenes and language. I believe IMDb should add an extra warning for fantasy movies like this one - which are normally children-friendly - that it's not to be watched with children, even if it's a tale.It was okay for me, but my kids were the fist to mention the bad language and sexual connotations, which made me feel really uncomfortable. The movie would have been a cool one even without those moments, and the audience would have been a lot bigger. I would have given to it a higher vote in that case.
