As Good As It Gets
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
A mysterious killer video tape is circulating around. One look at this tape and you have seven days left to live. News Reporter Cindy Campbell witnesses this video tape and tries to work out a way to prevent her death. But this is not the only mystery to appear. Crop circles have been appearing in the local farm of Tom and George. A mix between The Ring and Signs 'Scary Movie 3' provides once again more goofs, more laughs and even more camoes from well known faces such as Pamela Anderson but also even more sexy stuff. Definitely works once again. (A+)
Of the first 5 Scary Movies this one oddly eluded me, having previously seen the other 4. Saw the original movie at the cinema and hated it so didn't exactly get off to a good start, and I'm certainly not a fan of the series. Anyway this one provides plenty of funny gags, has a cast of many familiar faces (especially being a Hip-Hop fan) & is short enough not to out stay it's welcome. A bit like my review!
Scary Movie 3 is the latest in a long line of 'parody' films which lampoon either a specific film, or a genre in general. This time the franchise takes a pop at (horror classic) 'The Ring' and (sci-fi thriller) 'Signs.' The original Scary Movie was primarily lampooning Scream, which allowed the film to follow a single plot line effectively. However, now it tries to merge two different films together, the jokes (most of which are 'hits' as opposed to 'misses') may be there, but the story seems a little jumbled. It's generally the opinion that Part 3 of the franchise is not as good as the first, but largely better than the second. If you're a fan of the series, then you probably know what you're in for, or if you'd like to see either Signs or The Ring poked fun at, then this might be the one for you.Although, most of the main laughs come from the over-the-top hurting of a small boy (it's funnier than it sounds, honestly).
There is a fun spoof of 'The Ring' to start this off. Farmer Tom Logan (Charlie Sheen) and his brother George (Simon Rex) discover a crop circle, saying "Attack Here!" Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) is now a TV anchorwoman who wants to do hard hitting news. Her psychic nephew Cody (Drew Mikuska) has her best friend Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall) as his teacher. George's niece Sue has the same class. Cindy falls for George who is trying to win a rap battle.Old school David Zucker takes over from the Wayans. It's a lot of movie spoofs. There are some random funny moments. I still like Anna Faris as Cindy. I'm not so sure about Sheen. This was before his meltdown and I still had some trepidation about his comedy back then. The problem is that more jokes don't work rather than work. The few random funny jokes keep this from being a complete failure.
