Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

I have seen this lousy apology for a cinematic-suicide only because I thought it's about hookers who sleep with half the city because they going to be on the breadline. Instead, I was punished with the story of two lovebirds who are too stupid to communicate with each other. They stold two hours of my life with a story that is more holey than a Swiss cheese, stinks more than an old mold cheese left for 3 weeks on the heater and pictures that were filmed so strange that it feels like someone would spank me with Picasso's. The costumes and sets are really beautiful, but you have no way to enjoy them, because the pseudo art-house style that penetrates the movie from all sides makes it absolutely horrible.I like all the actors and that makes it even worse because it feels like your best friend spit in your face again and again. I hate this movie from beginning to end with every cell of my body. It's most likely made from the fires of hell was torturing me and the sooner I manage to forget that musical puke the faster I move towards to inner peace.

I can not believe that anyone or anything in Moulin Rouge! was nominated for an Academy Award much less won any. I have seen better acting, song and dance in a third grade play. I saw no talent in the entire movie. I think Nicole Kidman was wasted in this movie. Kidman has talent but I saw none in Moulin Rouge! unless it was Kidman's talent to not puke all though the movie. I think the attempts at singing by the cast are failures. To me it sounded more like screaming. A great musical is The Sound of Music (1965) as this movie displays real talent and enjoyable performances that include musical numbers, drama, romance and a great plot. Mary Poppins (1964) is another great musical. I consider Lady and the Tramp (1955) to be a much more accomplished movie and musical than Moulin Rouge! To get past the awful taste and mood that Moulin Rouge! left me with I will watch Cabaret (1972) or one of the other great musical movies I named. Finally I will say that I do not consider Moulin Rouge! to be any form of entertainment.

I can't count how many times over the years i've mentioned 'moulin rouge' as a favorite movie and people go 'ugh i stopped after 20 minutes'. DO NOT STOP. KEEP GOING. the first 20 minutes are the mountain you must climb to the most beautiful view you'll ever see! Epic doesn't begin to describe this film! it is a spectacular masterpiece! a visual stunner set among a heartbreaking backdrop of love and jealousy and loss. you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll ask yourself what drugs you (and baz luhrman) were on, but you will not do, is ever again doubt the talents of Nicole Kidman and Ewan mcgregor. both deserved Oscars for this visionary film! the true definition of art and what it means to be an artist (an actor) it's easy to make films where you sit and cry (trust me you'll come out of this one doing that) but to sing and dance and be an ENTERTAINING film as well as an impactful one is no easy feat and this film accomplishes just that. (and yes i took off a point for the dizzying camera angles. i'm human too)

I never, ever have written a "review" of a film I have not finished watching. Until now.Consider this a public service warning. SKIP IT ! NOW! Unless you really like to listen to contemporary songs in a 18th Century setting being sung by non-singers, skip it.Unless you really really like to look repeatedly at close up shots of lace and taffeta clad women's crotches, skip it.If all you want is a well photographed film of a pretty stupid story with totally obnoxious characters, then this one is for you. If not, (all together now) skip it. I wish that I had.
