After the first five minutes this movie just 'flatlines'. It's dead! The first five minutes actually got my interest and curiosity up to see where this story was going. Eva Longoria is convincing as the hyper bossy bride to be obsessing on her wedding day set up. But then she and the movie just die - dead! The movie becomes a struggle to watch after just five minutes and the empty attempts at humor are actually depressing and sad. The only positive opinion I can offer is that the sets and clothes and colors are very nice and pleasing to see. If it had not been for that I would have been completely depressed at the end of the movie.I felt sorry for the actors. And the Jason Biggs character twist near the end was needless and ridiculous.

Since (The Philadelphia Story – 1940) I think, a sub-genre in the romantic comedy has been born. A person is torn, one way or another, between 2 lovers, especially before the moment of marrying the recent one of them. The old, mostly angry, lover did change along the years : a once-dead then-alive first wife (Move Over, Darling – 1963), a whimsical, already ghost, husband (Kiss Me Goodbye – 1982), a noisy young lady (My Best Friend's Wedding – 1997). This round, it's once-dead then-ghost noisy young lady (Eva Longoria). While having basically nice elements, it suffers from overweight and many lost chances. To instance : it develops a war between the old and the recent sweethearts, but what a weak war that is ! The ghost has magic powers, but they weren't many or creative; at one point she went to torture her opponent by non-stop talking ?! Speaking about talking; this has to be the most bigmouthed comedy ever made. It relies on conversations, LONG ones, more than the ironic image. So how about the conversations not being that ironic in the first place ! The character of the sister (played by Lindsay Sloane) was an original windbag; I felt like they had to increase the size of her role, and the time of her scenes, because she's related to the producer or something !The comedy overall wasn't right (did the hurly-burly at the lead's clinic interest you ?!). The pace is wasted with weak games. I don't recall one hilarious moment or cinematically amazing scene. It's merely the surprise of Jason Biggs's character. Moreover, the uncharismatic cast added more to the uninteresting nature of the whole thing. (Lake Bell) and (Paul Rudd) are cute but maybe for minor parts. I couldn't stand them all through it, despite useless moment like when they forced (Bell) to take off her clothes only to assure that she has *talents* ! And it's enough pain when a wonderful comedienne I adore, like Eva Longoria, who established herself in a TV show such as (Desperate Housewife), does a movie where she gives no laughs in it !(Over Her Dead Body) is not bad; it just has some wrong matters. From the endless chatter, to tries to laughing like farting endlessly by (Longoria)'s character !

Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart Katharine Hepburn, Caludette Colbert, etc. have nothing to worry about (let alone Howard Hawks or George Cukor), but the screwball genre they worked so well in definitely inspires "Over Her Dead Body."\Beware Eva Langoria Parker's top billing -- Lake Bell is at least as important (and, in my mind, more appealing) in the film. That said, it's 90 minutes of harmless fun, with a nice little cameo by Stephen Root (from NewsRadio and Office Space, among other credits). The whole supporting cast, mostly unfamiliar to me, is quite good.My favorite scene is between the Bell character's assistant and another guy toward the end of the film, with repercussions that carry on.

I confess to have quite an uneasy feeling about ghosts movies, and while I sometimes enjoy the genre when it comes to horror, but when it comes to comedies, they really need to be crazy to be funny. 'Over Her Dead Body' seems to take afterlife a little bit too seriously, and fails in my opinion from almost any aspect I can think about. The story is completely unbelievable of course, and did not succeed to convince me either in the comic or in the sentimental register. The choice of the principal actresses was awful. While Paul Rudd is at least handsome and looks like a nice guy, the taste in ladies of his character seems to need serious improvement as Eva Longoria seems too aged (sorry) for him, and Lake Bell seems too unattractive (sorry again). A romantic story without good enough reason for romance is due to failure from start. Jason Biggs and Lindsey Sloane were actually better but they had only supporting roles. The rest is uninteresting and uninspired, with flat cinematography and cheap gags borrowed from unsuccessful TV comedies. Nothing really worth watching, nothing to remember.
