In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

I think those that give this movie such horrible ratings have no sense of true artistry. The plot was fine... simple. Look at the plot of the original - plain and simple. The acting was stellar. Harry and Lloyd could not have been portrayed any better. The actors did a stand up performance, incredible. They deserve to be recognized for this...The movie was great, at its core it was about a fanatical friendship, which is what the world needs more of.I give the movie 2 thumbs up, way up.Joel Schumacher

And now we know how it all began. In 1986, Harry has been home-schooled by his widowed mother and doesn't have a clue about how the outside world works. Lloyd lives at the school he attends because his father Ray (at least I think that's his father, because Harry doesn't appear Hispanic) is the janitor. But Lloyd doesn't get that he doesn't have to catch the bus: he's already AT school. If not for that one little detail Harry and Lloyd might never have met. The two immediately become friends and Lloyd explains to Harry what he needs to know about attending a real school. They don't really comprehend that the minute they arrive at school, Turk and the other cool kids are actually bullying them. And then there is Jessica, the cute girl in the tight sweater and the really short skirt. She's really nice but the guys misinterpret her behavior, as she has a boyfriend and really wants something from them.Principal Collins and lunch lady Ms. Heller are having a secret affair, financed by the money they embezzle from the school. And they will really have a chance to clean up: Mr. Moffitt, a successful man who was once a "special needs" student (hey, Forrest Gump did it) will give $100,000 to any school which develops its own special needs program.Amazingly, except for Harry and Lloyd, this school has no actual special needs students. Every school has them and it should be no problem. But Ms. Heller will teach the class and Harry and Lloyd will recruit the students. They're not too bright and don't quite understand that some of these kids are not "special", such as the football team's mascot who is not really part horse. However, the "special" kids will get out of doing real work, so they quickly agree to be part of the scam. Among the special kids are Carl, Toby, Lewis, and of course Turk. A Chinese exchange student our heroes call Ching Chong must be special too because she has trouble with English.Jessica is suspicious and goes in search of answers about the alleged special needs class. Meanwhile, photos are taken in a fake classroom actually used for computer classes. But the class actually meets in a shed used by Ray. Their big project will be a parade float.Jessica and Harry become friends, and he meets her parents in what turns out to be a hilarious disaster, with Lloyd failing miserably as a Cyrano de Bergerac, while Harry forgets about the chocolate bar in his back pocket and later sits on the hot radiator in Jessica's room. If you love bathroom humor, what comes next is a classic moment. And if that's not enough, Harry has another unfortunate incident with Jessica's father involving mud. There's another great gag involving frozen drinks, "it", and complete ignorance of exactly how gasoline works. Also an exciting car chase. So will Jessica find out the truth? Will the villains in this adventure get what's coming to them? No, this doesn't live up to the classic original "Dumb and Dumber", but if you don't set your expectations too high ... it's still not that great. Well, there are plenty of good moments.Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen both do a reasonably good job. So do Eugene Levy and Cheri Oteri. No one's winning awards here but you have to laugh at these people.Rachel Nichols is pleasant and intelligent, and good-looking in the style of Gwyneth Paltrow.Bob Saget is perfectly normal as Jessica's father until ... you know. And then he really shines.Dana Gould has a great scene as the former special needs student.Other enjoyable performances come from Brian Posehn, the store clerk, and Michelle Krusiec as Ching Chong. If you're looking for quality, you're not going to find it here. If you enjoy juvenile humor about losers in high school, this just may be for you.I know I liked it.

Just as hilarious as the original Dumb & Dumber. This movie sticks to comedy, not drama. It gets to the point, moves along well. A well-thought out movie that is not stupid. I give it a 10 out of 10 because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Good acting, good characters, good performances, good story. The movie is actually quite sincere. It's not pretentious. Why the low ratings and bad reviews by others? I came to this movie with no expectations or preconceived notions about anything or anyone. If they made this movie any better it would simply have been different, not better. Highly recommended. I also recommend "The 'Burbs" (1989) starring Tom Hanks.

Once there were Laurel & Hardy. Then Abbott & Costello brought the voice to it. After that, Bob Hope & Bing Crosby came to somewhat change the formula with singing and a bit of sexuality. But when Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis broke up at the end of the 1950s it was the end of an era. The hole during the 1960s, 1970s and the 1980s was filled by names like Eric Morecambe & Ernie Wise (nice gents from the British side), Terence Hill & Bud Spencer (more popular in Italian spaghetti western movies), Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau, Tim Conway & Don Knotts, and finally Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor. After that.. Hmmm.. There are no more memorable loyal 100 % comically comic duets anymore. All what you'd have is loud Action/comedy stuff (Lethal Weapon, Men in Black, Bad Boys or sorrowfully Rush Hour!). Or teen garbage with tons of silliness (BASEketball, Dude Where's My Car..). Or rare, and I mean RARE, good decent stand alone examples (My Fellow Americans, Analyze This..). So, the Comic Buddy-movie has become lost. And since the 1980s' end, I think we're living the un-golden age of it ! According to that, let's review my list for their worst or rather the worst of the worst since there is no good ones in the first place ! : 10_Dumb & Dumber (1994) : too stupid, too repulsive, and too overrated to too provocative extent !09_City Heat (1984) : disappointment at its best. I mean Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, Blake Edwards.. How can anything get wrong with them together ? But it did! The main disappointing matter is that the buddy-thing isn't here at all, since the 2 leads share the screen for less than 5 minutes. It's like watching many story lines meets forcedly under the name, just the name, of Buddy-action comedy. In another word : this is a hoax !08_Rush Hour (1998) : well, I love Jackie, there is no doubt about that, but who can stand Chris Tucker; while being the first name of the poster, earning more than a cinema legend like Chan !! If you can bear the way he delivers ANYTHING in this movie, then you're like that character from (The World is Not Enough) yes, the guy who feels nothing !07_Nothing to Lose (1997) : No, there is.. My time in the front of this !06_Turner & Hooch (1989) : somehow the start of the ominous downfall. It began with changing partners in horrible ways (the next step : Whoopi Goldberg teams up with a dinosaur in Theodore Rex !). I can't forget that dog's white sticky drool UGH.. Can you think of a more disgusting partner !05_Hollywood Homicide (2003) : I got simple equation for you : Josh Hartnett + comedy = Flop. I have nothing more.. So this movie !04_Taxi (2004) : the real depressing thing is that the 2 leads are funny indeed. But their movie isn't ! It's nice action, with dry humor. And it kills me to watch (Ann-Margaret) in a movie like this ! Simply this buddy-comedy can't be my buddy ! 03_Fled (1996) : a remake of (The Defiant Ones) ? Laurence Fishburne in comic scenes ?!, Stephen Baldwin in a movie ?!!! Was it a spoof of similar movies ? No, it's bad spoof of itself. I'll never forget a line was said by one of the evil characters while menacing someone "I'll make you wear your a** as a hat !" what was that anyway ??! It'll keep you wondering (about it, so the movie) what was that anyway ??!02_National Security (2003) : Was there anything new ? Or entertaining ? Was it the comedy, the action, anything ?! I couldn't find a single THING. There wasn't even chemistry between the 2 leads. It's a special case of having nothing special. I felt it was a soda pop's can of a movie, and it was tasteless as well. I don't think that we'll see a part 2 of this one (or will we ?!).01_Dumb & Dumberer : When Harry Met Lloyd (2003) : this is the exploitive, hasty and so outrageously silly Hollywood at its frankest examples. And this is the buddy-comedy at its suicide. Ahhh. When will I be able to make a list for the best 10 buddy-comedies of for instance the 2000s ? Or rather to see a respectable one again ?!
