Melvin Udall, a cranky, bigoted, obsessive-compulsive writer of romantic fiction, is rude to everyone he meets, including his gay neighbor, Simon. After Simon is hospitalized, Melvin finds his life turned upside down when he has to look after Simon's dog. In addition, Carol, the only waitress at the local diner who will tolerate him, must leave work to care for her sick son, making it impossible for Melvin to eat breakfast.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

"As Good as It Gets" is a movie that stuck on my watchlist for months. Somehow, I always found an excuse not to watch it. When I finally did, I was a bit surprised, both negatively and positively. Story is lovely. We have characters we can (mostly) sympathize with. Acting is (mostly) on very high level(especially Jack Nicholson), but... Who the hell put Helen Hunt in this movie? For God's sake, this woman is a bad (mediocre at best) actress. And honestly, I don't know why, between actresses like Kate Winslet and Judi Dench, she won the Best Actress. Goddamn enough for me to give this movie lower rating.

Before life was filled with hate and killing others for their views on faith and lifestyle this movie was released.I good movie for a person that see how others treat each other without knowing any better. It a movie that isn't all love and acting nice to each other. It a movie to shows how each one of us sees and react to others.A movie to shows us that we are the same and yet we hate each other.

At the age of 54, the reality of offering up a ten rating for any movie, has acquired perhaps twice during these past 5 decades. Now, there have been plenty of 8's and 9's, but ten's are reserved for nothing less than 'entertainment-perfection'.Different strokes for different folks is the old saying, so perhaps my particular rating will not correlate w others, so the idea of offering up the ratings for this movie, from each individual member of our family (along w their specific age), may shed better light on the fairness of the rating.Father (54) - 10 Mom (50) - 10 Son (26) - 10 Daughter (17) - 9.5Hope this is helpful.

This is a grossly overrated, overlong, sentimental film. It's meant to be a comedy, but isn't funny. None of the characters are likable - Helen Hunt's character is horrible. It's unbelievable that Jack Nicholson's character (who's selfish and dislikes everyone) would do anything to help his waitress or neighbour.
