Redundant and unnecessary.

This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.

I think the makers of The Tourist thought, "People will be so enamored with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie that we don't have to worry about things like the plot and being interesting" and it shows. This movie is just bland. It's not really good, but it's not that bad, it's lukewarm. And if you don't see the ending coming from a mile away, you should probably check your pulse - because you're obviously a low-functioning corpse.

North by northwest, To catch a thief, Charade. These movies come to mind when you watch a movie like this. They all had Cary Grant playing against actresses like Eve Marie Saint, Grace Kelly and Audry Hepburn. This one has Johnny Depp, which could probably have worked, except unfortunately he's up against Angelina Jolie. Now she may be a star, but she was never much of an actress. She starred in two movies based on a computer game, both of them cheap copies of Indiana Jones, where all she had to do was running round in shorts and tank tops and kicking ass. Then she made a movie with Brad Pitt, they got married, and now she was definitely a star. But in a movie like this it takes more than good looks to make it work and there's simply no chemistry at all between Depp and her. So the romance angle dies there. But there must be some fun and action surely ? Well we get Depp being chased over the roofs in Venice dressed in pyjamas and a boat chase in the Canals, where the bad guys on foot manage to overtake the boat at every bridge, and that's pretty much it. The plot is pretty simple although they try to make it seem complicated by throwing a few not too surprising twists into it. The script and dialogue are weak, and the director doesn't do anything to make up for it. So if you like these kind of movies check out the ones i mentioned at the beginning, and don't bother with this.

Let me start off by saying that when one of our local television networks was airing this (again), I was really excited to be able to see it, especially since I haven't seen it before, despite it being aired numerous times. I was thoroughly disappointed, though, as 'the Tourist' is one of the worst movies out there, containing a lot of badly shot clichés! Angelina Jolie was dressed in costumes, not regal clothes, and Johnny Depp's clothes weren't that much different, either. The film was badly cast; the two lead characters should be believable both as people and love interests, and Jolie and Depp met neither requirement. Jolie was not believable as a Brit, especially as she couldn't pull off the accent, even if her life depended on it, and she had absolutely no on-screen chemistry with Depp; they were both just conveniently (or inconveniently) put there, and they were going through the motions, not really believing what they were doing.I could tell that the resort scene was supposed to be the scene where Depp realises that he's falling for Jolie's character, and though you got the romance, the scene didn't really happen. Again, they're just going through the motions; no real emotion behind it.I didn't watch the entire movie from start to finish, as it was so boring and I was so tired; it wasn't worth staying up and losing sleep over it! I cannot believe that this movie managed to scrape up a rating of '6.0'; it's so not worth it!Let me finish by saying that I will not be watching the movie again; it'd be a waste of time! Sorry for the rant, but this is a truthful account of how I feel.

I've heard so many awful, ridiculous things about this movie that I thought to myself. I don't believe it. Like "Ishtar" remember? Everyone thought it was the worst film ever made and then when I finally saw it. I liked it. I laughed, etc, etc. The Tourist however had the opposite effect. In fact is not bad as I had heard, it is worse, much, much worse. Maybe it was the beginning of what was about to happen to Johnny Depp, the brilliant actor of "Ed Wood" one catastrophic film after another. Not just bad films but terrible performances. Angelina Jolie showed she couldn't be a ,lighthearted romantic heroine. The lack of chemistry between them made me think there was some personal animosity between them. What a terrible movie experience.
