It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

It's an amazing movie, with an awesome story about the family and how anyone can make a difference no matter how he/she looks like or his/her age. The animation and the humor is perfect. All family will enjoy it! It's a lovely movie to share with friends, family and everybody in a family night.

In 2005, DreamWorks Animation released Madagascar, a film about four zoo animals who get caught by the police and get sent into crates. Then, they escaped from the ship and ended up in Madagascar where they meet three lemurs named Mort, Maurice, and King Julien, thus starting their very first adventure. It became a success at the box office and spawned two sequels. Then, in 2014, two years after Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, DreamWorks Animation released "Penguins of Madagascar", a cinematic spin-off to the television show that stars our favorite characters of the franchise, "The Penguins of Madagascar. The story takes place in Antarctica where three penguins named Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico, who find an egg and when it hatches, another penguin arrives and they named him Private. Several years later, it takes place after Madagascar 3 where the penguins go off on a mission where they bump into an octopus named Dave (John Malkovich), one of the aquatic animals in the Zoo who is unloved by everyone and wants revenge on the four penguins. Then, after escaping, they meet up with the North Wind Elite led by Classified (Benedict Cumberbatch) who team up to save the world from Dave before it's too late. When the film came out in theaters, it underperformed at the box office due to tough competition against The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, although it did much better in the other countries. But honestly, I think that this is very underrated. OK, it's not awesome, but I really enjoyed this spin-off.However, there are two things that bugged me. First, there's the humor. Don't get me wrong. Some of it's very witty and got a few chuckles out of me including the scene where Skipper eats a few cheese puffs while Classified explains what the North Wind is and he gets interrupted every time, but on the other hand, some of it's a little bit silly. I'm not going to spoil some of it and I'm not going to spoil the ending to those who haven't seen it. I just thought there could have been some improvement in the humor. Also, there's the story and let's say it's a mixed bag. The relationship between Skipper and Private is the heart of the film and it works really well, but on the other hand it's a bit formulaic on some parts, but to be fair, it does give some energy and for the most part, it usually works to it's advantage. That's it for the problems. Now to the good stuff. The characters are likable especially the Penguins who continue to steal the show each time they're on screen. Classified is a decent enough character who gives a few witty lines and such and Benedict Cumberbatch's voice work is really entertaining while John Malkovich does a superb job giving a funny, but creepy personality to Dave. The animation is gorgeous and it fits well with the action sequences, which is another highlight of the film. The pacing, while a bit wild and crazy, is very brisk and the music score from Lorne Balfe satisfies with a score that resembles spy action music, but also gives some comedic stuff as well and mixes them perfectly.Seriously, I would've loved to see more adventures of the Penguins had it done so well at the box office. But as a stand-alone spin-off it's energetic and very entertaining. It may not be as excellent as say the sequels to How To Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda 2, but I'm glad I had to see it in theaters a year ago during Christmas break. Give this a shot and you won't be disappointed.

It all started ten years ago.The penguins from the first Madagascar movie stole the show. Then the penguins became the ingredient of the Madagascar trilogy, and the specials. Also including their own TV show. Now last year the audience got their penguins movie. This time the heroes tells about their past, and faces the villain in the shape of an octopus. The heroes teams up with some new characters too.In animation it is top notch. There are a lot of cool gadgets too.The humor is the classic slapstick. It's not the best movie of last Winter, but some light fun.8/10

Let me start with saying I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. I laughed through it, loved the intelligent wit with the awesome play on words. Even the Octo-henchmen had celebrity names that made it cutely humorous. Now here comes the honesty. There were a lot of scenes that seemed to be mostly taken from other movies. For instance… when the penguins were changed into monsters actually really seemed like the monster minions at one point. Private is the favorite of course in this movie and wow the cheesy poof munchies are so real. All and all this movie is a great film to sit and have a good night full of laughs.
