Very disappointing...
Absolutely brilliant
A Masterpiece!
There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
Out of 1h40, I laughed (moderately) less than 5 times...The vast majority of the supposedly fun moments fall a cliff, and start to become very annoying as the film repeats these. The film is also often vulgar, but it is not fun. It re-uses many of the tricks seen elsewhere (e.g. vomit in American Pie), but without the appropriate timing and expected effect. The film includes several scenes with some good ideas, which are unfortunately not well executed or thought through.Several scenes are also supposed to be more high level speech / morale, but this is quite boring and out of place. This film is a huge disappointment and waste of time.
Saw this on a flight back from Denmark. If you've ever been on an 8-hour flight, you know that your standards for entertainment diminish in direct proportion to how long you've been sitting on your ass, and a movie like "Blockers" might seem like the height of hilarity when you would barely chuckle if you were watching it at home. As an airplane movie, "Blockers" was pretty funny, and funnier than I anticipated it being. As with any gross-out comedy, some of the jokes are pushed too hard and land with a thud, while others, mostly the more subtle one-liners, are good for a laugh or two. John Cena gets most of the physical comedy and looks uncomfortable most of the time, while Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz fare much better with the material, though Mann in particular is given disappointingly much less to do. Indeed, in a comedy that pats itself on the back for being about female liberation, it's unfortunate that the best material is still reserved for the male members of the cast.Grade: B
Worst acting, dialogue, writing/screenplay and bad casting. We had just finished watching a very funny and enjoyable Life of the Party and thought this would be as good if not better based on the trailer. The trailer was the entire film's best parts. Everything else was so infantile and terrible. Stupid doesn't even begin to describe it. A generous 3/10 from me.
Let me first start with the positives. Or the positive, singular. Amazingly, the always annoying John Cena, actually isn't that bad. The rest of the movie however, is what we in the west is going to pay for in the future. This movie only teaches disobedience, promiscuity, lack of boundaries and low moral. Everything this movie shows, is what the west is suffering from right now. And before everyone jumps on me and calls me a radical or someone from the 1800's, this is what your kid is learning by watching these movies. Movies like this are the reason for the decay of western society. Apart from John Cena's, God forgive me for saying this, acting, this movie is utter crap.
